Privacy
- No accounts, no email. Clean Up Garfield does not ask for your name, email or phone to use any feature.
- A logbook stores the outings you log (date, minutes, people, bags, item counts, and the place and note you type, if any) and the spots you name, with the dates they changed. The logbook key is stored only as a one-way hash. One cookie (
__Host-cu_log) keeps the logbook open in your browser; one more (__Host-cu_csrf) protects forms. - The community tally adds up numbers only (outings, minutes, people, bags, item counts by date). Places, notes and spot names are never shown to anyone but the logbook holder.
- Making a logbook counts against a daily limit per internet address; the address is kept only as a salted hash, used for that day's count and deleted within 4 days.
- Server logs (address, page, time, browser) are kept by the web server for security and are deleted on the host's normal schedule.
- Deleting a logbook removes it, its outings and spots at once. Copies of the database made before that go too: the nightly backups are overwritten within 14 days, and the backups taken when the site software is updated are deleted from the server within 30 days. An off-server copy of those update backups is kept by WeldonPC for disaster recovery and may last longer; it is never used for anything else.
- No tracking cookies, no analytics services, nothing sold or shared. The only outside service any page loads is the banner from adengine.us on the public pages, described under Advertising; it also counts one page view per page as a daily total. When checkout opens, PayPal handles payment details; we receive only the subscription status.
Advertising
The public pages of Clean Up Garfield (home, community tally, guide, pricing and about) show one banner ad from AdEngine (adengine.us), the small ad network run by WeldonPC, the company behind this site. For now the ads are for WeldonPC's own services. Logbook pages, this page and the terms show no ad.
To show an ad, your browser loads a script from adengine.us, asks it for one banner, loads the banner image, and reports once that the page was viewed and once that the banner was shown. Like any website, adengine.us receives your internet address, your browser type and the address of this site with those requests.
- No cookies, no profile. AdEngine sets no cookies, gives you no ID and does not track you from site to site.
- How your internet address is used. adengine.us looks up the approximate city for your address in a location database kept on its own server (nothing is sent to anyone else), so that ads meant for one area are shown only there. It also uses the address to count each ad view or click only once and to leave out robots and WeldonPC's own office traffic. The address is not stored with the counts; the temporary entries made from it expire within six hours and are cleared from the server within two days.
- What is kept. Daily totals only: page views for this site, and views and clicks for each ad. The adengine.us web server also keeps a standard access log (internet address, time, address requested, referring site, browser) for security; it is deleted on a rolling schedule.
- Clicking an ad passes through adengine.us, which counts the click, and then opens the advertiser's site, which has its own privacy policy.
- Nothing about you is sold or shared. Your logbook, its places and notes are never part of any ad request.
